In the BMA herbarium are currently kept more than 2,300 samples in the form of dry material (exsiccates), predominantly Angiosperms; a small carpoteca, which records the types of angiosperm fruits from the state of Maranhão; and a collection of bryophytes, predominantly dried and stored in plastic pots. These samples come mostly from the state of Maranhão, mainly from the municipality of Bacabal, where the campus is located; We also have very representative samples from the Cerrado of Minas Gerais, especially from the Serra do Cabral rock fields. The collection of Bromeliaceae of Maranhão exsiccates included collections that expanded the known geographic distribution for different species and description of a new species. The Lentibulariaceae collection also included collections that expanded the known geographic distribution for different species. There are records in the collection of several municipalities of Maranhão.
