The Capixaba Herbarium (CAP), of the Universidade Federal do
Espírito Santo, was established in 2018 with a central mission to
serve as a depository of biological collections of representative
plant species from the Caparaó Capixaba region, including the
Caparaó National Park, Santa Marta Valley, and Pedra Roxa
(Ibitirama). Located in the Departamento de Ciências Florestais e
da Madeira, in the city of Jerônimo Monteiro, the CAP collection
currently houses 8,292 computerized collections, encompassing
all groups of vascular and non-vascular plants. In addition to the
flora of the Caparaó Capixaba region, the CAP collection includes
plant samples collected in projects conducted by the
Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo in the State Parks of Forno
Grande and Mata das Flores (both in Castelo), Pedra Azul
(Domingos Martins), and Cachoeira da Fumaça (Alegre), as well
as in the Pacotuba National Forest (Cachoeiro de Itapemirim),
Cafundó Private Natural Heritage Reserve (Cachoeiro do
Itapemirim), Córrego Grande Biological Reserve (Conceição da
Barra), and Serra do Valentim (Iúna). CAP also actively
participates in education and extension activities, providing
teaching support to undergraduate and graduate courses at the
Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, as well as other higher
education institutions in the southern region of Espírito
Santo.
