The CCDB is an extremely important crustacean collection, with over 9,500 lots and approximately 350,000 specimens originating from various regions of Brazil and abroad, such as Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and countries in Central and North America. Furthermore, the collection plays a number of essential roles in scientific and educational practice: 1) it acts as a showcase of the taxonomic diversity of Neotropical region, including Brazil and various locations; 2) it brings together a collection with approximately 99% of specimens amenable to molecular analysis; 3) it functions as a repository of genetic vouchers with approximately 2,500 sequences of different molecular markers, deposited in a publicly accessible database and authorized by SISGEN; 4) it is used as an educational tool for students and researchers, providing access to a range of ecological, morphological, and molecular data used in courses and extension activities, and promoting taxonomic practice.
