The Herbarium ECT is located at Embrapa Clima Temperado, Pelotas, Brazil. The collection started from sampling potato wild relatives species (Solanum, Solanaceae) to the germplasm bank of Embrapa in 1986. From 2003 onwards, the collection began to be increased with specimens from other genebanks, floristic inventories and vouchers from monographs, dissertations and theses carried out at Embrapa or partner institutions. The herbarium used the HCT and HECT acronyms. From November 13, 2014, when the collection joined the Rede Brasileira de Herbários, the acronym ECT was adopted. In April 2016, ECT was registered in the Index Herbarium. The 5056 herbarium specimens of the collection come, mostly, from Rio Grande do Sul (72.6%) and Paraná (15.9%). The main focus is the temperate region of southern Brazil, in the Atlantic Forest and Pampas. The collection represents mainly vouchers of accessions of the genebanks as wild potato germplasm (Solanum, Solanaceae), native fruits of southern Brazil (Arecaceae, Myrtaceae), espinheira-santa (Maytenus, Celastraceae) and peppers (Capsicum, Solanaceae). The main families are Asteraceae (1071 records), Poaceae (761), Lamiaceae (142), Solanaceae (138) and Orchidaceae (123). The collection of nomenclatural types has six isotypes and 11 paratypes. The herbarium has room with controlled temperature and humidity to the collection, anteroom with computer and library, as well as a shared preparation room with the Genetic Resources Laboratory. The ECT exchanges specimens with nine national institutions and samples can be requested for loan to specialists by contacting the curator.
