<dc:description>The collection has above 3,200 cataloged specimens representing about 500 species mainly from the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. The largest representation is from open habitats (southern grasslands and urbanized environments), but there are representatives of all major Brazilian biomes: the Atlantic forest (including Araucaria forest and grassland highlands), Amazon, Pampa, Caatinga and Cerrado. There are specimens of endangered, endemic and rare specimens of birds as well as ocean worldwide species cataloged.
The preserved material is composed of dry skins stuffed in a traditional way, skin-skeletons, skeletons, feathers and nests. The preservation in liquid is restricted to gonads, stomachs, syrinx and eventually carcass.
The collection of tissues has about 40% of specimens cataloged.
The collection includes two holotypes and 11 paratypes.</dc:description>
