<dc:description>The NX Herbarium was founded in 1997 and is part of the James Alexander Ratter Zoobotanical Collection of the Biological Sciences course, Nova Xavantina Campus, State University of Mato Grosso (UNEMAT). The NX is located in the transition between the two largest Brazilian biomes, Amazonia and the Cerrado, and allows important information to be preserved about the flora of a region strongly threatened by anthropogenic and environmental changes. Its collection encompasses a region of almost 200,000 km2, currently containing about 15,000 specimens, and its geographical representation is concentrated in the Cerrado Biome (collections of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Federal District and São Paulo), in the Cerrado-Amazonia transition (Gaúcha do Norte, Ribeirão Cascalheira, Porto Alegre do Norte, Canabrava do Norte, Santa Terezinha and Querência, in Mato Grosso, and Santana do Araguaia, in Pará), in Amazonia (Rondônia and southern Pará) and in the Pantanal of the Araguaia - Sedimentary Plain of Bananal (Ribeirão Cascalheira, Cocalinho, São Félix do Araguaia and Novo Santo Antônio, in Mato Grosso).</dc:description>
