The Herbarium of the Department of Botany UFRRJ, registered in the Index Herbarium with the acronym RBR was founded in 1916. Currently comprises ca. 40,000 specimens, mainly of angiosperms, followed by ferns. The collection is divided into collections: a general collection (35,620), ethnobotany collection (780), collection of bee plants (200), plant collection Marambaia - RJ (2800) and Biological Tinguá Reserve - RJ (1600 ). It has about 150 types nomenclatural. Their role is vital to the global effort to catalog biodiversity and mitigate their loss.
