<dc:description>The UERJ Polychaeta Collection was established in 2009 and contains 9,588 lots distributed across 55 families of polychaetes, totaling more than 47,000 cataloged specimens. The annelids primarily originate from unconsolidated seabeds in the intertidal zone, continental shelf, slope, and submarine canyons (up to depths greater than 3,000 meters) collected off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, including the Campos and Santos basins. The collection also includes thousands of specimens from rocky shores in the state of Bahia and shallow seabeds in Baixada Santista, among other locations. It includes both holotypes and paratypes.</dc:description>
